Incident

Sergeant Cottingham had responded to the scene of a suicidal woman. After calming and disarming the woman, he then transported her to the local emergency room.

Shortly after returning to the station, Sergeant Cottingham started to feel ill and called another deputy who lived nearby to ask for assistance. The deputy responded to the station and immediately transported Sergeant Cottingham to the hospital. It was determined that he had suffered a heart attack and he was admitted to the hospital.

Doctors determined that he was too weak to undergo surgery. He remained in intensive care until passing away two days later.

Rest In Peace - Sergeant ! January 1st. 2005 was long bad day for Henderson County Sheriff Department that ended January 3rd. 2005 when Sgt. Larry D. Cottingham passed. Sgt. Cottingham may be gone but he will never be forgotten....... Always in our hearts and on my mind...... God Speed!
