His wife, Janine -- also a paramedic, and three children
Jessamine County, Kentucky EMS Paramedic John Mackey died in the line of duty on November 9, 2015. On November 5 as he and his partner were responding to a call, their ambulance clipped mirrors with another vehicle. The driver pulled the ambulance to the curb, and Paramedic Mackey got out to see if the other vehicle had stopped and to assess damage.
As Paramedic Mackey stepped out from the front of the ambulance to examine the driver's side, he was immediately struck by a passing vehicle.
He was transported to the University of Kentucky Medical Center where he died from his injuries four days later.
There are 33 tributes for Paramedic John Mackey.
John was kind, compassionate, gentle, and an outstanding man! He would give you the shirt or kilt off of his own person to you if you needed it. I will miss his sweet smile and signature Mackey grin. I was fortunate enough to see John a few days before the accident and I got a big hug and smile before he left. I will cherish the memories we had at work together. Rest easy your job here is done...
