His mother and stepfather, Rayma and Kyle Hinz; father and stepmother, Jerry and Jackie Casey; daughter, Taryn Casey; five brothers, Brandon Casey, Josh Casey, Cody Hinz, Caleb Hinz, and Layne Hinz; and a sister, Kyla Hinz.
On the day of the incident, severe storms had moved into the area. Firefighter Casey was assigned to a post near an intersection to serve as a storm spotter. The storm behaved unpredictably and began to move into Firefighter Caseys direction at approximately 70 miles per hour. The EF-4 tornado struck his area and arriving units found him with severe trauma trapped in his vehicle. Firefighter Casey was extricated from his vehicle and transported to a hospital where he later died from his injuries.
