While attending a church service at a cemetery in the War Creek community, Deputy Pelfrey ordered a man who was drinking to leave. The man's father became angry with the order and shots were exchanged between he and Deputy Pelfrey. Both Deputy Pelfrey and the man's father died during the exchange.
