Reserve Deputy Driver was responding with lights and siren to an automobile accident at approximately 4:00 p.m. near West State Road 45 and West Eller Road when his vehicle collided with a trailer being pulled by a pickup truck. He was transported to the hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
Deputy Driver was originally from the United Kingdom.
In 2022, a section of Interstate 69 at Exit 120 in Monroe County was named the Reserve Deputy Sheriff James Driver Memorial Bridge.
