Incident

Deputy Sheriff Pennington was shot and killed at the Black Mountain Coal Company camp in Kenvir, Kentucky.

Deputy Pennington had arrested the man that shot him two years earlier and had witnessed against him during the trial that sent the man to an Atlanta prison for two years.

The man was arrested and convicted of killing Deputy Pennington. However, he was paroled on April 13, 1943.

Deputy Pennington's son Isaac was born two months after his death.
