Incident
Volunteer Fireman Nelson was killed while fighting a fire that destroyed two store buildings and three dwellings. A 'slight explosion' occurred that freed a pipe that was fastened between two wooden posts and used as a hitching bar. The pipe traveled 50 feet before striking Fireman Nelson just above the hips and causing fatal injuries.
