While conducting a non-emergency transport of a patient to a hospital, EMT McWhorter's ambulance collided with a semi-truck that turned in front of the ambulance. EMT McWhorter and the 75-year-old patient suffered fatal injuries. The second EMT, who was tending to the patient, was airlifted to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
