Deputy Fislar responded to a motor vehicle crash at approximately 11:50 p.m. A short time later, a passerby observed that he was down and used his radio to call for help. Deputy Fislar had come into contact with power lines. He was transported to an area hospital where he was pronounced deceased approximately an hour later.
In December 2024, Deputy Fislar was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor, Medal of Bravery and Purple Heart. In early 2025, he was posthumously named "Enforcement Deputy of the Year."
