Firefighter Lester Stewart

Former Chief Stewart was travelling with his wife when he came upon a three vehicle crash. When he stopped to render aid, he was informed that a 10-month old infant was still inside one of the cars. Chief Stewart climbed a 12 foot embankment and was able to remove the infant from the vehicle. He passed the child down to another firefighter who had just arrived.

After Chief Stewart came back down, he went to the rear of a fire apparatus and collapsed. He was transported to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead of an apparent heart attack.
