Incident
Deputy Hicks and three other officers went to a residence in the Kenvir community of Harlan County to serve a warrant on two men. Once there, shots were fired at the officers. Deputy Hicks was struck by the gunfire and Evarts Officer Kelsey Meadows was injured. Deputy Hicks was taken to Appalachian Regional Hospital where he died.
One of the men, as well as the man’s father, were killed in the incident.
