Incident

Patrolman Rainier was investigating the presence of two men in a car lot after midnight when he was shot and killed. The identification of one of the suspects was found in the deputy's hand. The two suspects ages 18 and 19 were wanted in Indiana having robbed a filling station the previous night.

One of the suspects was arrested at a Henderson bus station while the other was arrested near Jonesboro, Arkansas in a stolen truck.

Patrolman Rainier was a Korean War veteran.
