Deputy Sheriff Sarah Irene Haylett-jones

Deputy Jones was struck by a vehicle while assisting with traffic control for a wrecker removing a car from a ditch. She was struck by an SUV being operated by a 16 year old female. The accident occurred at approximately 10:30 pm.

She was transported to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis where she remained until succumbing to her injuries two days later.

Deputy Jones was a native of Michigan and had served in the United States Air Force for 4 years. She then served with the Montgomery, Alabama Police Department for a year and a half before moving to Indiana and joining the Monroe Couty Sheriffs' Department in February 2008. She earned a bachelor of science degree in 2007.

She had been married for one year.
